This survey was conducted to support the development of the Girton Village Plan: an action plan based on the key concerns and issues raised by Girton residents to be addressed over the following five to ten years. Both parish and district councils can draw upon the village plan to provide clear evidence to support decisions and actions.
The Survey
The survey was conducted from 13 April 2009. A questionnaire was posted on this site and two paper copies were distributed to each residence in Girton. The web survey closed on 10 December 2009, but most paper and web returns were completed by end of May 2009. 1036 individual responses were received. All paper responses were manually entered into the same database as the web responses. (Thanks are due to all those who helped with this.) A random sample of five papers per batch of 100 were double checked and from this was estimated an average reliability greater than 99.8% for data entry. Results were analysed using appropriate statistical methods.
This Site
For ease of interpretation, the results of the survey are presented in the same grids in which the questions were asked. Not all respondents answered all questions. Unless otherwise stated, survey results are presented here as a percentage of those who responded to a given question; this excludes both blanks and a small number of marks which could not be interpreted with reasonable reliability, according to a predetermined standard. All questions may be reviewed using the Next and Previous buttons (the last question loops back to the first). There is a written summary of results for all questions, but no interpretation is given on this site. Comments submitted with the questionnaire were treated as confidential and are not published on this site.
The questionnaire was divided into 8 parts.

Some questions were more relevant to certain areas of the village or to certain age groups, so we began with a couple of questions to help discover which sections of the community felt most strongly about particular issues. For subsequent questions, the results for a particular area of Girton or age group may be viewed using the drop-down menu provided. A map, showing the areas of Girton used in the survey, appears if you click the link and it can be dragged out of the way.
